A Name Like Obama

I've been wondering about the origin of the name of presidential candidate Barack Obama. Some people I've asked suggested that it might be Arabic. Others said it's Pilipino or African. The origin has finally become clear: it's Vulcan.

The realization came to me when I saw something on television about the show Star Trek™. There was a black Vulcan blathering on about something or other. His demeanor and haircut reminded me of someone. Then a commercial came on and it was for Obama. That's when I made the connection. Barack Obama must be Vulcan.

I'm not sure how I feel about a Vulcan president. If he is a natural born citizen and meets all the other requirements, it's probably acceptable. He could probably bring logic to Washington D.C., something that is desperately needed. Of course, it was just rude when Bush gave German Chancellor Merkel a shoulder massage; a Vulcan could put her out.

Of course, I could be wrong about the origin of the name. It seems extremely likely when you consider that Vulcans are fictional. Still, it's a nice idea.
