Hamas Fights Fatah

Category: politics

I have to admit, I have no idea what Hamas is thinking. The level of violence and the targets chosen are a complete mystery to me.

For those who don?t know, Hamas is the radical side of Palestine. They lost a little of their standing when a new Palestinian government came to power, but then started gaining more. A few months ago, there was a joint government made up of Hamas and Fatah (the more moderate guys). Now, Hamas and Fatah are at war with each other with the violence spreading over all of Palestine.

There was hope that the new government may make headway toward peace with Israel. If the Palestinians were more peaceful, they would gain more international support. The international community would be more likely to put pressure on Israel to play nice. With Hamas throwing a tantrum, none of that is going to happen.

I?ve known teen-agers who were destructive just to take on the world. Their reasoning was limited and based on simplifications and delusions. They could cause their little ruckus and they would be put down by the authorities. Of course, these morons didn?t have thousands of members or heavy fire power.

Hamas reminds me of the punk teen-agers who lash out just to lash out. They are not moving themselves toward their goals. They are giving Israel more excuses for attacks against the Palestinians. They are seriously worrying the international community.

My own worry is that this is going to spread. This is sad. These little victories for groups like Hamas embolden them and groups like them. They don?t realize that there are larger groups out there that are holding back. One day, if Hamas gets big enough be to be a real threat, even the most peaceful people may decide that it is ok do unleash the full might of offensive power and that just is not good.

There is no real point to this post. There is nothing anyone can really do about the situation. It is happening and will continue to happen. For the sake of the world, we must hope it will burn itself out and fail.
